Artist Portfolio

Ruby Tiara Lopez Rios

I am just a woman who feels a lot. Before I was a designer, I was a doodler, which grew into a painter. Painting helps me visualize and describe my emotions, process people, experiences, and life. Because art takes many forms of expression, I often pair mediums; poetry and printing, embroidery and paint. Here is an assemblage of my visual work.

"Dear You" Debut Solo Exhibition

Since I first started to journal, my entries began with "Dear You." In the back of my mind, someone would read it one day, whether alive or dead, and learn all of the deepest parts of me.

As years passed, "Dear You" has grown to mean something more personal. It became a dialogue with myself, like a prayer. It is where I whispered desires, fears, and resentments, and created space to claim parts of me & the person I manifested.

This exhibition explores all beginnings; from family, to culture, childhood and current beliefs of self. It's an attempt to showcase who I am, as someone who is still evolving from old familial cycles, learning new information, and claiming a new parts of my identity. Through the painted depiction of old photographs, screen printed poetry, apparel and textile work, I bring you through a vulnerable headspace and allow you to read me like an open book.

bark.

birth and death is all about living

breaking out of bark, wood chipping

between the folds in your hands as you claim this life

grip what is not yours but yours to take

and take.

living is needy- its work. You have not

lived if your hands are without

calluses cracking and

oozing

holding onto the hands of loves ones

and begging please

please

the yearning

the second guessing

the fight.

Color and Technique

Contrasting warm bright colors with hard defined black shadows creates a striking and animated look to uncomfortably realistic imagery.
